I love food.  Let me restate that.  I LOVE food!!

I’ve been called a “persnickety” eater.  Actually, I’m not picky.  I’m willing to eat almost anything… almost.  But I am selective about what I eat.  I only want to eat GOOD food.  What do I mean by good food?  Not only does it have to taste good, but it has to be good for my body and make me feel good.

I credit my eating habits to my mother who was always experimenting with healthy food in the kitchen.  My siblings and I were fortunate to be fed by a mom who is a great cook and always cooked meals and desserts from scratch.  We were raised on homemade whole wheat bread from flour that my mom ground fresh each baking day.  We always had a garden and my dad kept bees so we had an abundance of fresh produce and our desserts were naturally sweetened with raw honey.

For the most part I loved my mom’s cooking but I still rebelled against some things (broccoli, liver, and tofu to name a few).  I’ve acquired a taste for these and other foods as an adult.

Despite my upbringing, I haven’t always been a very healthy cook myself.  As a young wife in my early 20’s my “go to” meal was hamburger gravy over mashed potatoes and no vegetable.  My husband and I would polish off a half gallon of ice-cream every couple of days.  I was a heavy soda drinker.  Needless to say, the weight began to pack on and I suffered from headaches and blood sugar swings.

I started making healthier choices.  I cut out sugar and began incorporating more vegetables in my meals.  Gradually my eating habits evolved over time to where now my meals are centered around vegetables.  I’m not a vegetarian, but I eat only a little meat and my body seems happier this way.

The most amazing giant lettuce! These veggies were from a CSA box I subscribed to in 2009. Thanks to a regular supply of farm fresh veggies I learned to enjoy beets that summer!

The recipes on this website and in my meal planning service reflect how I eat now.  This is my kind of food!  I eat lots of veggies, whole grains and beans, a little meat, and an occasional sweet treat.  I hope you enjoy my food and fall in love with a healthy way of eating!
